MiniMoto

What's a minimoto?

A minimoto is a miniaturised motorbike designed for racing. Powered by a 2-stroke engine each bike weighs about 20kg, has a wheelbase of roughly 700mm and a ground clearance of roughly 25mm. Bikes are raced in 3 categories as follows:

  1. Standard. The standard class uses an industrial based 2-stroke engine. Max speed usually a little over 30mph (depending upon driver weight.
  2. Modified. Some engine tuning is allowed.
  3. Superclass. Race prepared machines with the rear wheel being driven via a centrifugal clutch and chain. Achieving speeds of 60-70 miles per hour.

Minimoto racing is an ideal way to get into motorsport racing in an exhilarating and cost effective way. As a Minimoto is so small it's feasible to take it to race in the back of a family sized car. No need for large trailer and lots of expensive extra's.

When racing you are crouched with your head roughly half a metre above ground level, which even at 30mph feels extremely fast.

Are you looking to buy a mini-moto?

You can either buy new or second hand. If you are intending to race it's worth first going along to one of the many races that takes place in the UK each year.

Once you have decided what you are after check around - the web is good for this- for the best prices, but be careful to make sure who you are buying from actually has the bikes in stock.

At Yorganic.com we are looking for a partner who is keen to receive web traffic via our site. Contact us by clicking here.

How much does a minimoto cost?

Minimoto bikes start from as little as £200 (maybe less). For this you can get a 49cc single cylinder air-cooled 2 stroke bike. Like full-sized bikes, the addition of a full fairing or watercooled engine, etc, will progressively increase the price of the bike.

Once you have bought your bike you will need - Helmet, gloves, leathers and boots.

If you are keen buying a Minimoto with style, many full sized replica's are available. For example the Ducati 916 shown.

These are usually around £500 to buy new and will achieve speeds of around 37mph. When you are so close to the ground this feels seriously fast.
